Nemawashi is a creative technologist studio in Tokyo. I'm Kotaro. I design the thing and I build it, and the same hands do both.
Most of my work has been product design inside banks. United Overseas Bank, then Credit Suisse, years of screens that move real money. Before that, the Royal College of Art. On the side I run a small fashion brand, mostly so I have to sell something myself.
The name is a method. Nemawashi is the quiet groundwork that happens before a decision in a Japanese company. I do that part first: get the people who matter to agree on what we're building, and check that the numbers hold. Then I build it, in code, quickly. AI takes the repetitive parts. The screens that matter, I do by hand.
Everything on this site, including the experiments in the lab, was made that way.
Client work is mostly under NDA. Ask me in person.
What I do
- Groundwork: the people aligned, the numbers checkedgroundwork
- Concept sprints, from idea to a working wireframefast
- Design systems built in codein code
- Key screens by hand, the rest with AIaugmented
- Production front-endship
Let's work together
